SERVICES IN IOWA EPILEPSY EDUCATION

familyServices in Iowa are provided by Epilepsy Foundation staff assisted by the Epilepsy Foundation Iowa Community Council, and are coordinated through our Des Moines office.

Customized epilepsy education programs are available for a variety of audiences, including:education

  • schools and childcare centers

  • social service providers

  • businesses

  • civic and community groups

  • people with epilepsy and their families

An annual fall family conference features clinicians and other epilepsy experts, and introduces participants to a wide range of topics of interest to persons with epilepsy and their families.

The availability of onsite programs varies by location. Where we are not able to provide onsite programs, videos can be loaned.

SUPPORT SERVICES

Epilepsy Foundation staff in Des Moines and Iowa Community Council members in Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, Ankeney, and Sioux City provide information and referral to a wide variety of statewide resources.

Individualized information and assistance is also provided by our Des Moines staff in such areas as educational advocacy, the Americans with Disabilities Act, access to medication assistance programs, and referral to epileptologists and neuropsychologists.

Members of the Iowa epilepsy community participate in statewide and national efforts to increase awareness of epilepsy and funding for epilepsy research and services.

Speak Up Speak OutSpeak Up, Speak Out is a grassroots advocacy network that connects citizens with their federal elected officials on issues of national importance to the epilepsy community.

Kids Speak UpKids Speak Up! is a national conference for youth leaders with epilepsy. It provides 7-16 year olds with a unique opportunity to educate elected officials and staff about seizure disorders.

The Iowa Epilepsy Treatment and Education Task Force: Initiative is a product of a House File 322, an act relating to the creation of a task force concerning drug product selection relative to antiepileptic drugs for the treatment of epileptic seizures and including effective date provisions.

Discovering that they aren't alone is one of the most important experiences that some people affected by epilepsy have. Support groups introduce you to others who understand and share your experience and give you a forum for learning about resources, exploring options, and making new friends.

Iowa Support Groups are offered in Ames, Cedar Rapids, Council Bluffs/Omaha, Des Moines, Iowa City, Quad Cities and Sioux City.
