EPILEPSY EDUCATION

SEIZURE CLINICS

SUPPORT GROUPS

Customized epilepsy education programs are available for a variety of audiences, including:
  • schools and childcare centers
  • social service providers
  • businesses
  • civic and community groups
  • people with epilepsy and their families

The availability of onsite programs varies by location. Where we are not able to provide onsite programs, videos can be loaned.

Seizure Clinics are offered in DeKalb to persons with epilepsy who reside in our service area and who do not otherwise have access to specialized medical care. Seizure clinic services include:

  • Examination by a Board-certified neurologist.
  • Assistance with scheduling further tests.
  • Medication monitoring.
  • Counseling regarding seizure control, medications, stress, and lifestyle choices that may contribute to the effective management of seizures.
  • Emergency medication assistance.

Discovering that they aren't alone is one of the most important experiences that some people affected by epilepsy have. Support groups introduce you to others who understand and share your experience and give you a forum for learning about resources, exploring options, and making new friends.

Illinois Support Groups are offered in Rockford, LaSalle/Peru, Sterling, and Moline/Rock Island.

INDEPENDENT LIVING

HISPANIC SERVICES

ADVOCACY

The CILA (Community Integrated Living Arrangements) and CSLA (Community Supported Living Arrangements) programs help adults with epilepsy and other developmental disabilities to become more self-sufficient, develop independence in daily living, and become more fully integrated into the community. Our program is an intermittent CILA rather than a group home. Members of our program live in their own apartments and receive intensive case management.

We offer CILA and CSLA only in Rockford, IL, but other CILAs are available in other areas. Whether you are looking for an intermittent CILA or a 24-hour CILA, it is important to research options in your area and contact the agencies that offer them. Most CILAs have waiting lists, so getting into one can be a lengthly process.

In Rockford, the point of entry into the CILA system is Access Services. Or, for more information specifically about our program, contact Dan Cunningham.
